Integrating Key Performance Features into One Component
The Locking Collar is an essential part within the Delrin 4D™ device. Of complex geometry, it features a novel lockout clip design that has been fine tuned to provide audible feedback clicks.
The Locking Collar also slides easily against several other components – essential when device activation occurs. Then, once activated, this part provides a rigid structure for the lockout mechanism, fixing the needle shield in place and providing the necessary resistance to prevent risk of override.
By integrating these multiple functions into a single component, less additional parts are needed, reducing assembly complexity, decreasing overall material usage and associated costs.
Generating an Audible Click
The audible click is generated by the clicking feature on the Locking Collar interacting with the lug feature on the Needle Shield
During reset, the Locking Collar rotates back to its original position.

Precision Parts With High Dimensional Consistency
Delrin® parts have excellent dimensional accuracy – ideal for mechanisms that depend on tight clearances for accurate interactions between components. CT scans show very little variability between moldings and CAD data.
These tolerances are consistent part to part thanks to the high reproducibility of Delrin from injection molding. Delrin components are also highly stable in a range of environments, displaying minimal moisture pick-up from the surrounding environment, even in hot and high humidity conditions.
